Following the creations of birds of the air, the fish of the sea and trees which yields their own seed; God said “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth (Gen.1 :26, NKJV).” Everything that God had created was “according to its kinds”, but man was the culmination of God’s creation. The birds did not receive the honor to be made in the image of God and neither were any other living creatures. “So God created man in His ow n image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them (Gen. 1:27).” God’s purpose for man and woman was clear “be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.” The home is the foundation of creation and society. The home stands as the first God- authorized covenant. The home is established first by marriage. When Jesus is questioned about marriage, remarriage, and divorce he cites the creation account, “He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made, them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate (Matt. 19:4-6).” God’s divine blueprint for the home is for a man and woman to be joined together as one flesh and start a family. Marriage has a negative aspect (leave father and mother) and two positives aspects(joined to wife and becoming one flesh). Now that we understand marriage as God’s ordinance, the question remains, “What is a home in the shape of the cross?”
A home in the shape of the cross is a home where the father is the head and the spiritual leader. The reason the apostle Paul gives “for women not to have authority over a man” is based in creation “ For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
